An appropriate use of my time
I knit. A lot. Sometimes in places that people give me flack about, as witnessed by the following photo (which I was unaware that a fellow student took). Yes, I knit during class. I’ve had professors ask me to stop when I’ve been in a classroom full of students who are wasting time online. I understand that knitting might visually look like I’m focusing on something else. However, when knitting something simple it merely becomes background noise. It keeps my hands busy and my mind from wandering. Further, (and oh how shocking) it keeps the back of my mind busy enough that I can actually focus on the lecture/presentation at hand.
In fact, those of you at Startupempire might recall me getting called out by one of the panelists. Hey, it could be worse – I could be on twitter…
1 commentKnit Lace Headband & Handspun Yarn from Ohio Renaissance Faire
This fall my mister picked up a single hank of some handspun yarn from the Ohio Renaissance Faire. It was small, with 82 yards of yarn. I’ve spent the last couple of months looking through Ravelry to try and find a pattern that a) suited the yarn, and b) was simple & small enough that I’d have enough yardage to finish it. I found this pattern from Pepperknit. It was initially written for leftover sock yarn, but was similar enough to what I needed that I could use it!
The entire thing took a couple of hours to knit and made for an excellent study break over the course of the day. I still need to block it to get the yarnovers to open up a little more, but overall I’m really happy with how it turned out.
