Baby Aviator Hat

Yesterday was a day where I felt like I did lots of stuff, but accomplished little. I think its because I was on the go for so much of it that I didn’t have my normal downtime or routine. I’m trying to finish reading Voltaire’s Bastards and even though I’m less than 100 pages from the end, its a long and disciplined read to finish it. I did read 80 pages of a book of short essays on the impact that knitting can have on people’s lives so I still met my reading goal for the day, it just wasn’t what I had told myself I’d read.

I did however finish up this lovely little baby aviator hat for a friend’s shower (which was yesterday afternoon). A friend at stitch ‘n bitch had made one and I immediately fell in love. Its a really adorable little hat and an easy knit. Even better is that my button collection means that I can search for the perfect button with ease. All I have to do is walk upstairs (the buttons are sorted by colour in mason jars on the bathroom counter – its actually quite a pretty effect) and sort through the jars until I find something that works well. For this hat, we picked an old mother of pearl buttons. I thought it suite the aviator style.

The rest of the evening was spent watching the Simpsons 20th anniversary special. We’ve been working with Gucci and even though he’s been doing way better, he’s starting to test his boundaries a little bit. One of the things we’ve been working on is that he’s only allowed on the couch when we invite him, in order to maintain pack structure and all that. Well, last night during the Simpsons was the first time he hopped on the couch when Jason asked him. This is excellent because it means that he’s starting to trust Jason more (and therefore is less fearful).

Yup, yesterday was a day full of adorable things. Including Jason, as he was nice enough to drive me to the baby shower in Pickering and then to pick me back up again. He’s an incredible guy.

We were just at our friends’ house meeting their baby yesterday while also becoming his (Humanist) godparents. Baby Jack was wearing an aviator hat and we wondered where we could get a pair of baby sized goggles.
