Ronda, I'm the same way. The first time around with a new pattern is always a learning experience. I end up with a piece of paper with tonnes of notes. And then every time after that is so much easier!

I'm glad that you enjoy it.

I just made this hat. I LOVE it, but I will have to make some adjustments.

1. I used a #7 instead of an #8 and I used cheap worsted weight yarn.
2. I repeated the ear flap patterns where it was 8 (10,12) times. 12 times made the ear flaps 7" long. I think that 8-10 would have been perfect, as I did the 12 times and they are able to go under my chin. (I should have put in a button hole)
3. Body of the hat: I made it until it was 7", however I think the 5-6" would have worked out better.
4. For the finishing, I used a "G" hook and worked a single crochet around, not the half double. I started with the half double, but the since looked MUCH better! IMHO. It's the PERFECT pattern otherwise.

I'm actually going to keep my notes that I made & the hat for fitting purposes for anyone else and then make the needed adjustments. Since I'm VERY active with in the Boy Scouts with our son, sleeping with a hat on keeps me warmer, and this was just the kind of hat that I was looking for! THANK YOU! I'm sure that I'll be making more of them once the boys & the adults see my hat when I'm done. Thank you for this pattern. I know that with/ small adjustments that I need to do on my end that it's perfect! Thank you so much again! I'm glad that I came across your site! Keep up the patterns!

I have to tell you, this is the best pattern I have ever done. No need for extra finishing work to make it look nice, instructions excellent. I have to say Great Job with this pattern. Love it :-)
