Laura Vegys’ Cute, but Dead Squirrel Watercolour

Jason and I were walking home from lunch today (at Cafe Bernate, one of my favorite local cafes) along Ossington. We stopped in at C1 Art Space, in part because they had an awesome window display and in part because they have the mustache handkerchief’s that I love so much. Even more awesome was that they currently have a 15% off sale on all items. I was sorely tempted by some of the amazing artwork they had.

I hemmed and hawed and eventually picked up a small watercolour by local artist Laura Vegys. Her website can be found here. After trolling through her galleries, I’ve fallen in love with her style. I picked up a small watercolour of a dead squirrel, which balances cute and morbid without being disturbing. Now to figure out where to hang it! Dead animals aside, I would love to have her artwork in a kids room.

Incidentally, C1′s vibe & selection of local crafts reminds me a lot of Wholly Craft in Columbus, OH. I’m appreciative of the positive changes that are taking place in Ossington & West Queen West.
