These were inspired in part by Jason and in part by my friend Marie (and her lovely pink scarf). It’s a free lobster claw bicyling mitten knitting pattern. They are perfect for cycling – you can reach the brake without taking the rest of your hand off the handle!

The picture above was my first crack at them and I’m pretty impressed overall. Both with how easy they were to knit and how the first attempt came out. I’ll be giving them to my friend Marie to test out as she cycles to/from school.
To Download the Basic Ear Flap Hat Pattern you can do one of three things:
It will open the pdf in a new window. From there, you can browse through it and save it if you choose to.

I am interested in your pattern for Lobster Claw Bike Mittens, but don’t see where to print it. Please help.
I’ve emailed you a copy!
thanks for this awesome pattern! i very much prefer it over the knitty pattern and can’t wait to knit up a couple pairs!
Hey, thanks for the pattern! My brother requested a pair of monster mittens that he could wear while riding his bike to university, so adapting this was perfect (see the pics at http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=228358&id=582377353&l=455050e480).
i love the idea of this pattern… but I’m an uber beginner, and I’m confused if this is knitted on double-pointed needles or in the round? i dont understand how its done.
sorry if this is a stupid question.
Chloe, both! Its knit in the round using double pointed needles (a circular needle would be too big). Knitting in the round on double pointed is all sorts of wacky. It took me a couple of tries to get the needles sorted out and not twist the stitches. Play around with it and give it a try. You’ll likely have to rip back and try again, but it’ll all gel in your brain and you’ll get it.

thanks jana! i was really intimidated by the prospect of these mittens, but your instructions were easy to follow, even for someone as knitting-clueless as me. tc (my husb) loves the gloves and wears them everywhere.
