Scrabble Tile Projects
I had an idea for a series of art pieces this past fall. I’ve been slowly working away at starting it. I’d spent some time bidding on lots on eBay, waiting on the mail system, putting the piece together, seeing what was missing. Rinse and repeat. I finally sat down and went through it one last time. This is what, once assembled, will be the art piece.
However, in order to get that I had to order this…
Yup. I have a giant bag of scrabble tiles on my coffee table at the moment.
I have some ideas for a project or two using them. Do you have any suggestions?

you could tile your kitchen. bunch of melamine clearcoats would totally make it work even for health code. i’d go for randomness, not words.
I saw a coffee table that had been tiled with dice, it looked amazing. That’s what I would do with scrabble tiles, cover a small table with them, randomly, but maybe with a few words, like your name or ‘fart’ or whatever snuck in.
zomg, it was dominoes!

That is an AMAZING suggestion!
How about a 3-dimensional sculpture of a brain (or a semi 3-d side/split view that you could hang) made entirely from tiles? It helps to have a model to work from (like they sell at med school bookstores) if you want it to look good. I had planned to do this with a thousand or so tiles that I accumulated for reasons to long to explain, but opted to give the tiles away due to lack of time for the project.
